PARRISH/GURVITZ THE YELLOW PAYGES THE LITTER HORSELIPS PROTEUS THE BEATLES

2pm FRIDAYS is when the PSYCHO-ACOUSTICS hour airs on KMSU 89.7fm in the Mankato and outlying areas. You can also hear all the great programs from KMSU live on the web @ KMSU.org This week's show features Adrian Gurvitz and his guitar work from the Parrish/Gurvitz album, great psych moves from the Yellow Payges (an often overlooked album), the Litter  with some fun punk/psych from their DISTORTIONS album. There is also a couple offerings from Horeslips who have a Celtic psych sound and then from Proteus (a rather rare album) comes a cosmic jazz fusion sound. I also slipped one Beatles tune in their somewhere. This should be a good mix of 60's and 70"s psych and prog rock to enjoy. Give it a listen and leave your comments here on the blog.

WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND VOLUME 3 / AUGUSTWOLF / TOP TEEN BANDS VOLUME 3 (BUD-JET) / JACK BRUCE BAND AND HIS MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA

This week on the Psycho-acoustics hour a number of midwest bands are featured. Bands like the Bandits, the Novas, the Only Ones, and contemporaries will entertain us just as they did in the mid 60s in downtown Minneapolis in places like the Armory or on WDGY am radio. Other artists on the program will be Augustwolf, Jack Bruce, and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Each of these artists has a great musical presentation to offer so tune in to KMSU 89.7 on the fm dial or KMSU.org live streaming audio. For early 60s rock and mid 60s psych and late 60s prog and lots of other 60s sounds turn your volume up and put your headphones on and listen to the Psycho-acoustics hour. Music for your head.

KRAAN NEKTAR TALKING HEADS WIPPO

This week, on Friday 11/19/10 @ 2pm on KMSU.org KMSU 89.7fm on the PSYCHO-ACOUSTICS hour some great progressive psych rock will air. A few cuts from Kraan's album Flyday and the title cut from Nektar's A Tab In The Ocean are excellent examples of prog rock at its best. A few cuts from the Talking Heads come from their Remain In The Light album, another great example of a newer aged prog psych sound. The last few cuts come from an album by WIPPO. I am not too familiar with this group but they sound somewhat similar to DEVO (imho). All in all it should be a good program, so I encourage you to tune in. Please feel free to leave a few comments about the show or about this blog or even about music selections you would like to hear in the future. I have a large selection of record albums for your listening pleasure.

Neil Young

Since it is Neil Young's birthday Friday 11/12/10 he will turn 65. I have decide to play all Neil Young songs for my show that day which airs at 2pm on KMSU.org and 89.7fm on the radio dial. I'll play a couple of his earliest recordings from when he was with the Squires and a bunch of live stuff from various albums. I'll even play some from his soundtrack to the movie Dead Man, you don't hear that stuff on just any radio program. It's interesting stuff. Give it a listen and let the sounds penetrate your mind. It's just what the DOCTOR ordered!

ASHKAN CONDELLO

Great psychedelic music available to your ears on Friday 11/05/2010 on KMSU.org or 89.7fm. On the psycho-acoustics hour you'll hear Michael Condello, Ashkan, and the United Sons of USA. All the cuts offered are great sounding psychedelic-bluesey-hardrock songs that will entertain you nicely. Tune in at 2pm Fridays for great psych-prog, rock & roll music as well as cosmic jazz, blues and space-rock. Sometimes a rockabilly song slips thru or even some psychobilly and punk, but it's all good! Give a listen and see if you don't like what you hear. Psycho-acoustics is the study of sound and its effects on the brain. How does it effect you?
